Youth Group 3/9
Tonight we had quite a bit of fun at Youth Group. We played a little game on 3 of the youth. I had Sara take them upstairs so they could not hear the explanation, which was as follows:
"It has recently been found that when a person is standing alone in front of a silent group of people, they revert back to the state they were in during their first kiss... In fact, they say the very thing that they said after their first kiss..."
So, as the 3 youth came in one by one, the remaining youth in the room were utterly quiet (besides the laughter) and just stared back at the person up front, until they said something or did something.
Keeping in mind that whatever they say was what they said or did after their first kiss... here were the reactions.
The first person to go was Garrett - whose reaction was to just giggle and smile, and eventually do an impressive little turnaround circle. The second person to go was Daniel - whose reaction was to say, "Man, that's really creepy..." then, "Is that car supposed to do that?"
The third person was Stephanie - whose reaction was (I kid you not), "What am I supposed to do?" "No, seriously?".
After this, we played the Hand Game - pictured to the right...
After the hand game, we went to lesson. We heard a story about two young ladies who were on a mission trip to help build some houses for needy people. One of the girls decided that she wanted to fix up the hotel room they were staying in, and by the end of the story had knocked out a wall of the hotel to make room for a kitchenette, repainted all of the walls, and nailed herself in when she put up a bookshelf.
The point of the story came from Matthew 6:19-21 - "19"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (ESV)"
The girl had laid up her treasure in a hotel room, which they weren't even staying at for longer than the weekend! But that's how we live our lives sometimes... we put too much stock in this life, when we're here for such a short time...
So that's what the youth learned about this week. Now I'm off to work on the Sunday School lesson...
In His Service,
Isaiah
