Saturday's Devotion

I've been doing daily devotions for the Youth on the Youth Group website of the RCC page. Here's a preview of Saturday's devo. 1 John 5:1-3 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.... (NIV) God knows whether or not we love Him by what we do in our lives. The question we should ask is: Is what I am doing pleasing to God? Do any of you remember the "WWJD?" fad that was big a few years back? I remember how everyone I knew was wearing "WWJD?" bracelets, even those I knew who weren't Christians. What happened to most of those bracelets? I imagine that the vast majority are in the trash... as the fad went out, it wasn't popular, so everyone quit wearing them. That's not what God wants from us... He doesn't want a fad relationship... something that we try for a while, but then throw away for the next new thing. He wants a lasting and loving relationship. Cut the fads, and carry out his commands... Have you been a WWJD? type Christian? Here today, gone tomorrow, jumping on the next bandwagon? Today is the day to recommit to obeying God's will in your life... WWJD wasn't meant to be a fad, but it became one... Live out your life thinking: Is what I am doing pleasing to God? It doesn't make a nice slogan like WWJD... but it will make a difference in your life. Isaiah Associate Youth Minister Riverton Christian Church

"Now is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It won't last forever. We must take it or leave it."

- C.S. Lewis Read this quote, really made me think. God is holding back to allow us to choose... to choose an existence with Him, or an existence without Him. Probably the most amazing thing is that He loves us enough to give us what we wish... If we choose to love Him in this life, to come to Him through Jesus (John 14:6), then we get eternity with Him. If we choose to not love Him in this life... we get eternity without the presence of God... we get what we wanted... we get what we chose. What a wonderful, loving God! Now is our chance to choose... Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that, I'll be over here, looking through your stuff. - Jack Handy

I won't really be looking through your stuff... well, maybe... Anyway, this has been a good week. I have the day off from mowing today, so that's really nice... I've updated the website (rivchristian.com) with links to the new Church blog: http://rivchristian.blogspot.com Dave and I will be posting there on a regular basis with "Words of Encouragement." Dave already posted one, so you should go check it out. We had a good youth group meeting last night. Played Wolf (a derivative of Mafia, or the other way around), then had a lesson on Wolves in Sheep clothing. Its on the youth group website if you want to check it out (link to the right). Other than that, I'm just happy to be able to chill out for a day, not doing a whole lot of anything... Well, I'm out of here for now... Later, God bless, Isaiah Mal 4:2 - The Sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings...

We came, we saw... we ate SPAM

Ah, WWCYC (Lander) Camp has come and gone, but many memories remain... like the Spam and chug contest (teams competed to see who could eat a full can of spam and drink a two liter of Mountian Dew [well, mountain dew equivalent from Walmart]), or the SPAM commercials, hanging out with kids (Team 2... hehe), and learning about God. The theme was SPAM - Study, Pray, and Memorize... It was good, clean fun... except when it was dirty... like the spam and chug, or capture the spam, or spam volleyball... Anyway, I'm back in Riverton, working part-time (mornings) with Green-Way lawns, and doing the youth ministry for Riverton Christian Church. Both seem to be going well, although I am getting worn out, but that's probably just left over from being at camp (hopefully). I've been meeting with an awesome guy named Stew Harwood that's here in Riverton for an internship, he's a really cool guy, on fire for God and everything ;). Anyway, he'll be teaching this week's lesson for Youth Group, so I'm looking forward to that (and it gives me time to prepare for next weeks, hehe). So, yea, mad props to Stew... thanks man. Maybe you know Gabriel Tyce Bruton, maybe you don't. He'll be performing here in Riverton sometime in August... and Gabe doesn't know this yet, but the owner of the Ledge (where he'll be playing) heard him singing and asked who it was, so now he's all excited about having Gabe come down... so that's cool. Also, Gabe doesn't know that we plan to have the Elitch's trip in August and he'd be invited to go (free of charge, b/c he'd be a sponsor). Maybe he's reading this... maybe not... Oh, and one final note... the Riverton Christian Church website is finally back up... check it out at: http://www.rivchristian.com Later, Rock, Rock On Isaiah Psalm 119:9 - How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.
